The temperate forest is usually located in the eastern United States, Canada, Europe, China, Japan, and parts of Russia. Next to this text is a picture of the worlds temperate forest biomes. The areas that indicate the temperate forest biomes are shaded in turquoise. The temperate forest is broken down into five zones similar to stories in rain forests. From top to bottom they are the tree stratum zone, the small tree and sapling zone, the shrub zone, the herb zone, and the ground zone. The climate of the temperate forest is much like what most humans are used to, which is 4 seasons. Temperate forests have a winter spring, summer, and fall season. The average temperature is 50°F with a mild summer average of 70°F and winter temperatures reaching well below freezing. Next to the rainforest, this biome receives the most precipitation every year. The average annual precipitation is 30-60 inches. In most seasons it falls as rain, but in the winter it falls as snow.
